SHRED A BILLION Demo Co-op: Player Count, Chat and Limits
Resolve the demo's conflicting co-op descriptions with dated developer announcements, and check party size, chat and session-planning limits.
Can you play the free demo with friends?
Yes. The dated demo release announcement explicitly supports online co-op for up to four players total: you and at most three friends. It also identifies voice and text communication. This is a demo feature confirmed by the release announcement, not merely a plan for the unreleased full game.
For a group starting now, open the same official demo product, rather than mixing the demo with the full-game wishlist entry. Allow each Steam client to finish any pending demo downloads before retrying a session problem. These checks establish which product you are attempting to use; they do not guarantee a connection.
Why does the store still say co-op is a full-game feature?
The demo page contains older wording that reserves online co-op for the full game. Its broader description also describes the larger game’s future tools. The November 3 announcement is more specific about the released demo, and the November 7 demo patch discusses co-op outfit and jetpack fixes.
Our current conclusion uses those dated demo announcements. We do not erase the conflicting store wording or treat the earliest teaser as the current feature list. If another patch changes support, this answer needs review.
Will four players clear the demo four times faster?
The developer says the demo is tuned so that clearing takes approximately similar time when playing alone or with friends. Therefore, party size alone is not a supported four-times-faster completion strategy. That statement describes the developer’s tuning goal, not a benchmark of every group.
The demo’s available upgrades and progression limits still matter. A larger party does not establish access to shovels, drones or the full Golden Reserve, and the demo ending remains a separate scope.
How do you host, join or resume the same shared save?
We do not yet have verified steps for the current lobby interface, invitation flow, host migration or ownership of a co-op save. The full-game store’s reference to shared progress does not prove that each player’s demo save will resume identically in another host’s session. Cross-platform play is also unverified.
Use the controls displayed by the actual demo for creating or joining a session. If the option you expect is missing, record the installed product, party size, what each person selected and any message shown. Report that through the official bug-reporting route instead of applying an invented port-forwarding or save-copying fix.
Do not assume a co-op session changes the no-transfer rule for demo progress. For a quick scope check before arranging a session, use the Demo goal checker.
